OpenAI just dropped GPT-5.5 Instant the refined brain behind ChatGPT and announced their first custom AI chip, codenamed "Jalapeño."
They're building their own silicon now, partnering with Broadcom to break free from Nvidia's grip.
This is OpenAI betting big on vertical integration.
But wait, there's more:
Figma just turned into a full animation studio with code layers and shader support
Adobe's buying Topaz Labs to supercharge Creative Cloud with AI upscaling and enhancement
I'm Alex. Welcome to L8R by Innov8.
Let's dive deep 🐰
In today's post:
OpenAI ships GPT-5.5 Instant and reveals its first custom AI chip
Figma brings code, motion, and shaders directly into your design canvas
Adobe acquires Topaz Labs to supercharge Creative Cloud with AI enhancement
OpenAI Drops GPT-5.5 Instant and a Spicy New AI Chip

OpenAI just pulled off a massive double-header.
They launched a much smarter GPT-5.5 Instant to power ChatGPT and showed off their very first custom AI chip named 'Jalapeño'.
This is a huge move to build their own hardware and escape Nvidia's shadow.
The details:
GPT-5.5 Instant is the new default model for ChatGPT, featuring major upgrades to context memory and intent tracking as of June 22, 2026.
The 'Jalapeño' chip is a custom processor built just for running AI models, co-developed with Broadcom over a blazing fast nine-month cycle.
OpenAI actually used its own AI models to help design the internal layouts of the Jalapeño chip.
Engineering samples are already running in labs, with data center deployment planned by the end of 2026.
Why it matters:
Running ChatGPT is incredibly expensive.
By making their own chip, OpenAI can slash their massive computing bills and save power.
It also means they do not have to wait in line to buy chips from Nvidia anymore.
They are taking full control of their tech from the physical servers to the chatbot software.
💡 L8R's Take:
Using AI to design the chips that will run future AI is totally wild.
OpenAI is playing chess while everyone else plays checkers.
If this Jalapeño chip works as well as they claim, Nvidia finally has a real reason to sweat.

Figma Just Killed the Design Handoff

Static design mockups are officially a thing of the past.
Figma just dropped massive updates that bring real code, motion graphics, and AI visual effects right onto your design canvas.
You no longer have to fake how an app looks and feels.
The details:
Figma Motion lets you build animations with a timeline and export them straight to React, CSS, or MP4.
You can now drop actual React code directly into your design using the new Code Layers feature.
A new Shaders tool uses WebGPU to generate wild visual effects and textures just from text prompts.
You can build your own custom Figma plugins by simply typing out what you want them to do in plain English.
Figma announced these tools at Config 2026 on June 24, 2026, with Motion and Shaders in open beta right now.
Why it matters:
Designers and developers always fight over the handoff.
Designers make a pretty picture, and developers struggle to code it.
Figma is fixing this. By putting real code and motion on the canvas, what you draw is exactly what gets built.
You can even skip heavy video apps like After Effects.
💡 L8R's Take:
Figma is no longer just a drawing board; it is a full product engine.
If you are a UI designer who refuses to understand how code and motion actually work, you are going to be left behind fast.

AI help, without the trust tax.
Most AI tools ask you to trade your data for intelligence. Norton Neo doesn't. It's the first safe AI-native browser built by Norton, and it gives you powerful built-in AI without handing your privacy over to get it. Search, summarize, and write with AI built directly into your browser. Your data stays yours. Your context stays private.
Built-in VPN, anti-fingerprinting, and ad blocking come standard. No add-ons. No setup. No compromises.
Fast. Safe. Intelligent. That's Neo.
Adobe Snaps Up Topaz Labs for Local AI Magic

Adobe is finally fixing its heavy cloud problem by buying Topaz Labs.
The software giant just grabbed the Emmy-winning AI startup to bring pro-level image and video upgrades right to your computer.
This means faster rendering and way less waiting for cloud servers to do the work.
The details:
Adobe announced the deal on June 25, 2026, aiming to bake Topaz's AI tools into Creative Cloud apps like Photoshop and Premiere.
The secret sauce is Topaz's Neurostream tech, which shrinks complex AI models to run on normal computers and cuts VRAM usage by up to 95%.
Topaz's famous video upscaling model, Astra, and image retouching model, Wonder, are included in the buyout.
Existing users do not need to panic because Topaz products will still be sold as standalone apps.
Topaz Labs CEO Eric Yang will stay on to lead his Dallas-based team inside Adobe.
Why it matters:
Running heavy AI models usually requires insane cloud computing power.
By snagging Topaz Labs, Adobe can push that heavy lifting down to your local hardware.
This saves Adobe money on server costs and gives creators a much faster, smoother editing experience.
It also helps Adobe fight off fierce rivals like Canva and Blackmagic Design.
💡 L8R's Take:
This is the smartest move Adobe has made all year.
Building local AI from scratch takes too long, so buying the absolute best in the business is a total no-brainer.
If they actually integrate this without slowing down Premiere Pro, video editors are in for a huge treat.
🚀 Quick L8R Summary
OpenAI's new hardware: OpenAI dropped GPT-5.5 Instant and built its own AI chip called Jalapeño with Broadcom.
Figma goes full creator mode: Figma now lets you animate, code React components, and add shaders right on the canvas.
Adobe swallows Topaz Labs: Adobe bought Topaz Labs to bake AI upscaling and enhancement straight into Photoshop and Lightroom.
